YANKEES 3
ANGELS 4
Sunday afternoon at the Stadium, the Yankees got swept by the Angels, losing 4-3. After 6 1/3 of great pitching by starter Mike Mussina, Joe Torre pulled him for no reason, and cost the Yankees the game.
Mike Mussina pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on five hits while striking out six. Mussina actually gave up 1 run, and then was responsible for the runner on base which Proctor walked in. Once again, Joe Torre had to coach by the “Torre Manual/Rule Book“, and pull Mike Mussina after walking just one batter in the 7th. Not only was he dumb enough to pull Mike Mussina, but he brings in Scott Proctor to face Kendrick, who is a career 3-3 with 3 doubles off of him. Then after seeing that Proctor had no control, Torre still left him in to give up the go ahead run on two walks, before going to Bruney. GREAT JOB JOE!!
Offensively, Will Nieves drove in 2 runs, and the Yankees had a late rally off of the most annoying reliever in baseball, Kelvin Rodriguez. Derek Jeter flew out deep to center with the tieing runner on 3rd base to end the game.
The Yankees went a pathetic 3-6 on the homestand, and will now go on the road to face Toronto, Boston, and Chicago.
GAME NOTES:
MUSSINA: 6.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 6 K
NIEVES: 2-2, 2 RBI
TORRE: 3-4 DUMB MOVES TO COST YANKEES GAME
